Do a 15-minute sweep before free pickup. Remove the garage-door remote, spare keys, toll transponder, parking permits, disability placards, insurance card, registration, glovebox papers, valuables, trash, and personal items from the cabin and trunk. Check under seats, visors, consoles, seat-back pockets, and the spare-tire well.
Wipe vehicle data next: delete Bluetooth pairings, clear HomeLink, remove saved addresses, especially home. Leave the keys and the signed-over title with the car.
Your pre-pickup checklist
Remove remotes and spare keys
Start with anything that opens a door or gate. Take out the garage-door remote, apartment or parking-gate fobs, spare house keys, workplace badges, and neighborhood access cards. Check the visor, cup holders, console tray, and door pockets. If a remote is built into the vehicle system, plan to clear it during the electronics reset step.
Pull billing devices first
Remove the toll transponder before the tow truck takes the vehicle. Then log in to the toll account or call the account provider and remove this vehicle from the account. Pull paid parking permits, campus or work hangtags, garage stickers, and disability placards too. Keep any account numbers or permit IDs for your own records.
Clear glovebox and papers
Take out the insurance card, registration, maintenance receipts with your address, loan paperwork, warranty papers, and anything with medical, bank, or employer information. Empty the glovebox, owner manual sleeve, door pockets, and center console folder. Keep donation paperwork you need for your records. Sweep cabin and trunk
Do the slow sweep next. Look under both front seats, between cushions, in seat-back pockets, sun visors, overhead sunglass holders, all console bins, floor mats, cargo nets, and trunk side compartments. Lift the cargo floor and check the spare-tire well. Remove tools that are yours, bags, chargers, coins, sunglasses, medication, mail, and child items.
Reset stored vehicle data
Use the screen menu to factory-reset the infotainment system if the car has one. Delete Bluetooth pairings, call logs, contacts, navigation history, saved addresses, garage codes, and HomeLink buttons. Remove the saved home address first if you cannot do a full reset. Also unplug USB drives, SD cards, phone cables, and any diagnostic dongle.
Remove optional add-ons carefully
You may remove aftermarket items you own, such as dash cams, removable GPS units, upgraded stereos, seat covers, bike racks, or child seats. Do not strip parts or change the condition you described when you arranged the donation. Leave the vehicle intact, safe to tow, and with any standard equipment that belongs with it.
Leave title and keys
Place the keys and the signed-over title where RideRescue told you to leave them, or hand them to the pickup driver if you are present. Sign only in the seller area and match the printed owner name; if anything is unclear, ask the Arkansas DMV before signing. Items donors often miss
Most missed spots: visor clips, seat-back pockets, console trays, spare-tire wells, cargo side panels, sunglasses holders, and the small slot beside the driver seat. Also check old phone mounts, magnetic plates stuck to the dash, pet barriers, emergency cash, prescription bottles, work badges, school pickup tags, and parking stickers. If another family member used the car, ask them to do one pass too. A second set of eyes often catches garage remotes, earbuds, and papers with private information.
Common questions
Should I leave the title in the glovebox?
Leave the signed-over title with the car, but do not hide it loosely under clutter. Put it in the agreed location or hand it to the pickup driver if you are present. Keep your own copies of any donation paperwork you need for tax or personal records.
What if I forget something in the car?
Contact RideRescue as soon as you notice. Retrieval is not guaranteed once the vehicle has left, so the best protection is the 15-minute sweep before free pickup. Pay special attention to small electronics, documents, medication, toll tags, and anything tucked under seats.
Can I donate if I cannot factory-reset the screen?
Yes. Do what you can before the vehicle leaves. Delete paired phones, remove saved addresses, clear garage-door buttons, and unplug storage devices. If the screen is dead or locked, remove all physical devices and write down that the electronic reset could not be completed.
